Artist Statement    Two influences determined my direction in art: the first was visiting European museums as a child and the second was Oscar Wilde’s writing that an artist must “paint life’s experiences into each portrait.” I was so impressed by the drama and technical mastery of the Old Masters that I sought to teach myself the language of classical portraiture from some of the greatest artists who defined beauty, grace and dignity on the canvas.
