Artist Statement     This is a scene near Black Canyon City, AZ. about an hour south of where I live in the Verde Valley.  Two painting buddies and I spent a day doing plein-air studies, exploring and photographing one beautiful sunny day this spring. The quality of light that day was extraordinary. Back in my studio the next day I started composing this larger piece based on my smaller studies, it can be difficult sometimes to recreate the same sense of light in a studio piece that you may capture in an outdoor sketch but in this case I think I succeded. This is also one of my wife's favorites.
