Artist Statement     Rick Hansen was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota in 1958.  He was educated at St. Cloud State University where he received a Bachelor Degree in Fine Art, along with a minor in Aviation Technology.  He continued his education at The Minnesota River Valley School of Arts studying portraiture for two years.   Hansen says he is “Continually chasing nature’s elusive play of light and shadow, trying to capture that specific moment in time”.   While in the past Hansen has focused on landscapes throughout the Midwest, he has gradually started painting closer to home, concentrating on the disappearing landscape in and around his small community.    He has created hundreds of small sketches allowing him to start a series of very large paintings of the Midwest and mainly his home state of Minnesota.    Hansen’s paintings represent intimate slices of his life; he looks forward to and hopes to share his unique moments in time with future generations.
