Artist Statement     Carol Ljuden (M.F.A, A.S.A, A.F.C.A.) is a multidisciplinary artist who lived in the United States for a number of years after graduating with her Master of Fine Arts Degree in Painting from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, Massachusetts. She returned to Alberta, Canada in the year 2000. There she rediscovered her connection with painting and drawing specifically in transcribing the Alberta landscape. These works are a painters documentation of a sense of place... a sense of belonging. As such they may seem to be a departure from her previous works which included large scale conceptual embroidery, photography and installation work. Conceived as images of places and events remembered, these works become distilled to the simplest of pictorial elements. The viewer here is asked to contemplate texture, surface, and distance in a single glimpse.
