Artist Statement     These two paintings that were accepted into the Richeson 75: Landscape & Exteriors Competition were projects painted for my upcoming book, "Textures in Watercolor", published by F&W Publications for North Light Books. "Aspens" is an imaginary scene that reminds me of the beauty of Colorado. I have taught many plein air workshops in Colorado over the years and completely enjoy painting on location along the mountains, streams and aspen fields. Numerous methods and techniques were used to achieve a variety of surface qualities and textures to create this painting.    "Lavender Fields, France" was painted during a recent watercolor workshop I taught in France. I painted the scene on watercolor canvas instead of traditional watercolor paper. After the painting was completed, I sprayed the canvas with an archival varnish. The varnish protects the surface so glass is not needed in framing.     I enjoy traveling the world to learn about different cultures, meet new people and paint the beauty of our world around us.
