Artist Statement     I feel very fortunate to live in a place where these wild protected areas like this section of the Cumberland River still exist.  After a short hike, I was able to get a close up look at this wonderful scene.  It was so peaceful and alive that I had my doubts about being able to do justice to its beauty.    When painting or drawing landscapes, I try to capture the spirit of the place, many times by doing numerous sketches prior to actually starting the work.  I know that I have been successful when I hear comments “that they remember the place or it reminds them of good times in a similar place”.  It’s also important to capture these scenes since many wild and beautiful places are rapidly disappearing due changes in commercial and residential zoning.    Enjoy the scene’s tranquility!
