Artist Statement     Random, natural beauty is my most consistent inspiration.  It provokes me to ask what it is within us that even recognizes beauty and why is it useful to us?’  I am trying to see and paint my way through this material veil to answer such questions.       I usually begin while wandering or traveling with camera in hand, often finding myself drawn to quiet corners of wildness and if possible, to water. “One the Face of It” and “A Luminous Face” both are based on the amazing granite giants to be found in the deep notches and flumes of the Green Mountains of New Hampshire.  The surface of these rocks tells a story of the movement of water and minerals and the pressures of gravity and age, just the way all faces tell their story over time.  These stories leave their traces in colors, cracks and textures of incredible beauty and liveliness.
