Artist Statement     Every winter Keiko returns to Kyoto, Japan, her hometown, to visit her family.  Journey Home was created after such a trip and captures a typical early evening scene on a backstreet in this ancient city.  People stopping for dinner ingredients at neighborhood shops is a scene that has been repeated everyday for decades, but the sight evoked a sense of déjà vu in her.  This painting is Keiko’s emotional response to it, the return of distant memory long forgotten of her childhood in Japan.    Keiko Tanabe is an award-winning watercolor artist who works in San Diego, CA.  A member of the San Diego Watercolor Society, she exhibits regularly in their Showcase Gallery.  Mostly self-taught, she has had many of her landscape paintings juried into exhibitions across the U.S. and in her native country since 2005.  And her work has been purchased by collectors in the U.S., Japan and Germany.
