Artist Statement     My pastel paintings are a reflection of my love of color and nature. I gained an appreciation for the outdoors while growing up in the Pacific Northwest. My earliest memory is watching the sunset over the ocean and being mesmerized by the constant changing of the colors. I was a collector of rocks, shells and butterfly wings, being drawn to these objects because of there intrinsic color.    I love exploring color with pastels. The uniqueness of a pastel painting is a result of a dry pure pigment being applied to a sanded surface, letting light refract off of each particle. Using layers of color a depth can be created unlike other paint mediums.     My path into making art began as I watched those sunsets, but now it is a culmination of many different experiences that come together each time I create a new piece. I feel fortunate to work as a professional artist capturing the natural elements of my surroundings
