Nancy Albrecht paints the constant regeneration of Chicago, the “City That Works.” A current series consists of paintings of buildings being demolished, materials salvaged, and construction beginning anew as seen in “Construction: Study of Gray”. Working on boards with palette knives allows aggressive mark-making which has become a hallmark of her approach, producing juicy paintings with lots of texture. The book New American Paintings: Midwest 2008 features several of these paintings.
