My portraits and figures are rendered in graphite, with some occasional touches of colored pencil. I seek to achieve an effect similar to that of silverpoint. Graphite is my preferred medium as it allows for both fine realistic detail and a palpably direct connection to each subject. Working from live models only, I try to evoke distinctive character and affect. My goal is to develop every figure until he or she comes alive on the paper.
